Virginia employers need to display seizure first aid posters
Virginia this month enacted a law that requires employers with 25 or more employees to display a poster on how to provide first aid to someone suffering a seizure in the workplace.
The new 8.5 x 11-inch poster will be published and made available to employers by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry. The poster, which must be placed in a prominent workplace location, will provide information about how to respond to and assist seizure victims in a way that provides for their comfort and safety.
With this new requirement, employers are reminded that following instructions from this poster won’t override the exemption from liability for a person rendering emergency care in good faith without compensation (section 8.01-225 of the Virginia code).
The new workplace poster is not available yet, but employers with 25 or more employees should monitor communications from the DOLI to comply with this posting requirement by July 1, 2022, according to HR360.
