Covered federal contractor employees have until Jan. 18 to be fully vaccinated

Employees for covered federal contractors are now required to be fully vaccinated by Jan. 18, according to guidance issued by saferfederalworkforce.gov.

The deadline stems from an executive order from President Joe Biden that was part of a series of federal vaccine mandates the White House released in September.

Since it takes two weeks from your final COVID-19 vaccine to be considered fully inoculated, that means federal contract workers affected by this deadline would have to get their second Moderna or Pfizer shot by Jan. 4 or their Johnson and Johnson vaccine that day, notes the Society for Human Resource Management.

Contractors impacted by the January deadline, SRHM report notes, include companies working on new contacts, solicitations for contracts, and contract extensions or renewals if that agreement is:

  • A procurement contract or contract-like instrument for services, construction or a leasehold interest in real property.

  • A contract or contract-like instrument for services covered by the Service Contract Act.

  • A contract or contract-like instrument for concessions.

  • A contract or contract-like instrument entered into with the federal government in connection with federal property or lands and related to offering services for federal employees, their departments or the general public.
